Hardwicke School Curriculum Vision Statement

At Hardwicke, our curriculum embodies our school vision: ‘Do everything with Love’. This underpins every element of our provision, ensuring that our children learn in an environment built on respect, kindness, inclusivity, and high aspirations. Through a rich, well-sequenced and thoughtfully designed curriculum, we nurture not only academic success but also a deep sense of responsibility, empathy, and global citizenship.

We are committed to providing all children with solid foundations in reading, writing and mathematics. These core skills are taught explicitly and applied consistently across the wider curriculum, enabling children to confidently access and succeed in all subjects. Our curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced, ensuring that knowledge and skills build progressively and cumulatively, leading to secure understanding and meaningful outcomes.

Oracy is central to our curriculum. We prioritise speaking and listening across all year groups and subjects to develop confident communicators who can articulate their ideas clearly, engage in reasoned debate, and listen actively and respectfully to others. Talk is used to deepen thinking, support vocabulary acquisition, and strengthen understanding—enabling pupils to become reflective learners and critical thinkers.

As part of becoming a global child, we encourage our learners to understand and appreciate the world around them. Our curriculum promotes diversity, equality, sustainability and cultural awareness, helping children to develop a strong moral compass and a sense of their place and responsibility in an ever-changing world. Through this lens, children are empowered to flourish as compassionate and active members of local and global communities.

We actively develop effective learning behaviours—such as resilience, independence, curiosity, collaboration and a growth mindset. These behaviours are modelled, taught and celebrated, helping children to take ownership of their learning and approach challenges with confidence and perseverance.

All subjects are taught with high ambition for all learners. Curriculum content is deliberately chosen to be broad, balanced and inclusive, with purposeful links across subjects to deepen understanding and engagement. Carefully designed sequences of learning build towards meaningful end goals, ensuring pupils know more and remember more over time.

We enrich our curriculum with visits, visitors and real-life experiences, helping children to contextualise learning, build cultural capital and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Ultimately, our curriculum ensures that every child leaves Hardwicke equipped with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to succeed in the next stage of their education and to thrive in life—academically, socially and emotionally.
