At Hardwicke Parochial Primary Academy, our PSHE curriculum is rooted in our Christian ethos and vision, “Do everything in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14). We nurture the whole child, helping pupils develop the knowledge, skills and character to grow as confident, healthy and compassionate individuals, prepared for life in modern Britain.
Our PSHE curriculum reflects national expectations by providing a broad and balanced programme that equips pupils with the knowledge and skills to stay healthy, safe and prepared for the future. While PSHE is non-statutory, we fulfil all statutory requirements through the teaching of Relationships Education and Health Education, alongside wider PSHE content tailored to the needs of our pupils.
Through our curriculum, pupils learn to understand themselves, build positive and respectful relationships, and make safe, informed decisions. In line with statutory Relationships Education, children are taught the fundamental building blocks of healthy relationships, including respect, kindness, boundaries, online safety and the importance of family and friendships. Our teaching promotes values such as empathy, resilience and equality, enabling pupils to appreciate diversity and challenge discrimination with integrity.
PSHE also supports pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing through the statutory Health Education curriculum, helping them recognise and manage emotions, develop self-esteem and adopt healthy lifestyles. Pupils learn how to assess and manage risk, understand their rights and know when and how to seek support, ensuring safeguarding is at the heart of our provision.
In addition, our wider PSHE curriculum includes economic wellbeing, citizenship, and digital literacy, enabling pupils to become responsible, active members of society. We ensure learning is carefully sequenced and builds over time, supporting pupils to develop knowledge and skills progressively.
A key strength of our curriculum is its responsive and flexible approach. We regularly review and monitor our provision to ensure it reflects current national and local issues, emerging safeguarding priorities and the specific needs of our pupils and community. This bespoke element enables us to adapt learning where necessary, ensuring that PSHE remains relevant, meaningful and impactful for all children.
Through a coherent, values-led curriculum enriched by collective worship and strong community links, we aim for every pupil to leave Hardwicke Parochial Primary Academy with confidence, a strong moral compass and a loving attitude, ready to thrive now and in the future.
With SCARF, children learn vital life skills they need to help them be happy, healthy and safe.
The theme this half term is Valuing Difference.
We're thinking about the things that make us the same as each other and what makes us different from others.
We're also thinking about kindness and how it can help everyone.
